Our staff is thoroughly trained and consistently monitored to make sure they uphold these standards. We have five full-time USDA staff members on site, including a USDA veterinarian and our own full-time staff vet. Plus, every team member in our plant goes through extensive training—which may be why we routinely receive the highest scores for animal welfare from third-party audits.
In 2014, we upgraded to a state-of-the-art CO2 anesthetizing system that allows hogs to move slowly and calmly through the process in small groups. Not only does this lower animal stress rates, it also improves the quality of our finished products.
